Simpson and Neaves Lead the Way as Secondary Tours Shine
It wasn’t only the DPA Pro Tour lighting up the oche over the weekend. Both the Ladies Tour and Challenge Tour held three events each, offering their own share of drama and dominant displays.
DPA Challenge Tour: Simpson Doubles Up, Smyth Also Takes the Spoils
Friday’s DPA Challenge Tour event got to the last eight stage where Nathan Simpson defeated Paul Hill, while Emmett Taylor overcame Mitchell Allsopp. Darryl Humphries edged past James Rogers, and Malcolm Gray moved past Dean Bugden to complete the quarter-final scores.
Simpson continued strongly, defeating Humphries 4–1 in the semi-finals. On the other side of the draw, Taylor eliminated Gray 4–2 to reach the Final. The decider saw both players hold throw early before Simpson broke in the fourth leg to lead 3–2. Taylor broke back to narrow the gap to 4–3, but he was unable to force a decider, and Simpson sealed a 5–3 victory for the first Challenge Tour title of the weekend.
On Saturday, Alexander Kitching breezed through his quarter-final with a 4–0 win over James Rogers, while Paul Hill produced the same result against Allsopp. Cody Stone saw off Daniel Burke 4–1, and Phillip Smyth edged Dean Bugden in a deciding leg.
In the semi-finals, Smyth defeated Hill 4–2, and Kitching took out Stone 4–1. The Final was a one-sided affair, with Smyth producing a 5–0 clean sweep of Kitching to claim the second title of the weekend.
Sunday’s final Challenge Tour event saw Kianu Rawiri defeat Hill 3–0 in the quarters, while Nathan Simpson survived a deciding leg against Cohen Hynd. Kitching came through another last-leg thriller, edging Malcolm Gray, and Dean Bugden overcame Joel Hynd in the final quarter-final.
Simpson made short work of Bugden in the semis with a 3–0 win, while Rawiri survived a tight 3–2 battle against Kitching. The Final opened with a break from Simpson, but a bust chasing 20 allowed Rawiri to break straight back and then hold for a 2–1 lead. Simpson levelled, then broke again to go 3–2 up before holding throw to seal the match 4–2, and his second title of the weekend.
While Simpson was leading the way on the Challenge Tour, a dominant display was unfolding on the Ladies circuit.
The Dart Technology Ladies Tour: Neaves Completes Clinical Weekend Treble
The Dart Technology Ladies Tour opened with a familiar result on Friday, as Judy ‘Judge’ Neaves claimed the first title. She eliminated Judith Bell 3–0 in the semis, while Tayla Walton defeated long-time rival Margaret Eagers 3–1 in the other semi. Neaves then swept Walton 4–0 in the final. Losing quarter-finalists included Brooke Wolter, Patty Gibb, Jade Lock and Sharon Stamp.
On Saturday, Neaves continued her run with a quarter-final win over Victoria Boon. Walton advanced once again after eliminating Bell, while Lock overcame Wolter and Gibb defeated Carolyn Boyland. Neaves beat Walton 3–0 in the semis, and Lock edged Gibb 3–2 in a deciding leg. In the Final, Lock broke first, but Neaves broke back and then held throw to lead 2–1. A second break from Neaves made it 3–1, before Lock responded with a break and hold to force a decider. Both players had match darts, but Neaves held her nerve to claim a 4–3 victory and her second title of the weekend.
On Sunday, Neaves made it three from three over Walton with a 3–0 quarter-final victory. Carolyn Boyland edged Jackie Carter 3–2, while Penny Williams beat Brenda Gent 3–1 and Judith Bell got past Boon 3–2.
Neaves survived another decider in her semi-final against Bell, while Williams eliminated Boyland 3–1. In the final, Neaves jumped to a 3–1 lead. Williams held throw to close the gap, but Neaves opened the next leg with a ton and controlled the scoring from there. She took the leg and the title with a 4–2 win, completing a flawless treble across the weekend.
Depth and Quality Shine Across All DPA Events this Weekend.
Judy Neaves’ clean sweep of the Ladies Tour and Nathan Simpson’s double on the Challenge Tour capped off a weekend that showcased depth, quality, and form across every DPA event over the last three days at the Warilla Bowls and Recreation Club.
